can you see the recurring theme
from the dream to the awake
cat and the fiddle and the spoon in the middle
dishing out a little taste
people all steal a peek of the peel
before they try to suck the rind
and the tongue gets a trickle of the bitter of the liquor
in the middle of human kind

papa can't roll to save his sould
but his rock is like a stone
strummin' on a set of rusted strings
singin' stubborn twilight tones
man grabs ahold of the wheel of fire
and steers toward the mornin' light
and mightily defies the age of his eyes
as he tries ot outrun the night
