Dream 3: "up the down slide"

I love the television show Firefly. I had this simple little bass riff running through my head night after night for about six months and finally the lyrics hit me one night. I woke up and wrote the song, inspired by one of River's lines.

up the down slide
a toss and a tumble, a trick in the trees
time bends and time retrieves
makes like a candle and blows out the light
time tucks us in at night
she rhymes with a whisper and stares down taboos
time fades like an old tattoo
she runs us in circles, around and around,
like a car full of clowns
a prickle of memory, a tickle of dream
hours give birth to what seconds conceive
and far-flung eyes take the sky for a stroll,
captured in the rapture of the black and cold...
while time takes a lick at the battle wounds,
kisses the blood and stitches the doom
with a pat on the head, time says, with a sigh,
"you're walking up the down slide"
